Digitally Sweet - challenge #64

Another week over at Digitally Sweet and I've gotta say..... I'm loving it!!

Look at this beautiful image I had the chance to work with this week from Lunagirl.com

Stunning..... just breathtaking!
I was staring at it for an age before I decided what I wanted to do with it.

For this week challenge, we had an inspiration photo to work from. 

Here is my creation using this beautiful image.

First I wanted to create a background using the wooden area in the background of the photo as inspiration. I chose the crackleglaze background stamp from Indigoblu. 

I randomly stamped all over the card with clear embossing ink then sprinkled gold embossing powder over the top and heated it. (I have found the gold embossing powder to be quite granulated rather than a pure powder, so it seems to give a more raised texture than other colours)

I added the photo to the centre of the card after inking round the edges with Distress Ink.
I added some bronze lace to the right hand edge of the photo.

I took 2 pieces of satin ribbon and one glittered piece of ribbon and loosely plaited it to correspond with the blue in the girls hair. 

I took a long length of wide pink satin ribbon to mimic the girls dress. I decided to sew it on rather than sick it.

I started at the top right and stitched it in sections but curved it as I went to create a flowing ribbon along the top and down the side.

I added ivy leaves in and around the flowing pink ribbon.

To finish, I added peacock coloured gems to mimic the peacock in the photo and to accent the pink and blue ribbon.

Artful Times Challenge Blog - lilac & silver - with a wintery stamp

Well, I have found this amazing challenge blog with fabulous arty challenges called "Artful Times."

This week, the challenge was lilac and silver - with a wintery stamp. A perfect challenge for me as many of you know I am addicted to the colour purple!

Here is my challenge entry. 

I stamped the Stag stamp on to lilac card using black ink and made a mask of the same stamp. 

I covered the stamped image with the mask then stamped the rest of the background with the Crackleglaze stamp using clear embossing ink.
I used lilac shimmer embossing powder and heated it.

I went round the edges with distress ink.

I then layered four pieces of strong tin foil and die cut it using the Foliage Spellbinders die to create the fallen twigs.

I tore along the top edge of the paper, punched two holes and threaded wide, lilac, satin ribbon and tied knots in each end.

* Indigoblu 'Stag Cliffhanger' stamp
* WOW lilac shimmer embossing powder
* Foliage Spellbinders die
* Jet black Archival ink
* Dusty Concord Distress Ink

DIGITALLY SWEET - challenge #63

Hello folks, well I'm loving my Guest Designer spot at Digitally Sweet and this weeks challenge comes courtesy of Lacy Sunshine Stamps. 




The image I chose to work with this week is Polly Poinsetta from the LSS store. 

Here is my creation.

I coloured the image in using ProMarkers and cut it out using a Spellbinders die.

I stamped the poinsetta stamp from Kanban multiple times on to red paper using black Archival ink, cut round them then clear embossed them to give them a shiny look.

I took sheets of green stripy paper, mounted it on to plain green paper leaving a tiny border. 

I added green ribbon to one green striped panel and red ribbon to the other green striped panel.

I layered them in opposite directions - one vertical, one horizontal.

I then drew freehand double lines around the outside of each panel. 

To finish I attached the poinsettas around the main image.

Here is my creation

I coloured the image in using ProMarkers, cut round it and rounded the corners with a corner punch.

I inked the background with Distress Inks.

I mounted the image on to a piece of map paper and tore around the edges, then mounted it on to a blue piece of plain paper and also tore around the edges.

I stamped flight information on the top and bottom of the image using individual alphabet stamps.

I then mounted it in to a piece of travel themed wallpaper which I cut to size. I stencilled down one side the same flight info using a black marker.

To finish, I tided a thick piece of ribbed red ribbon in to a knot at adhered it down the side of the image.

Dancing Queen Nataliya - OSAAT - challenge #190

This weeks challenge for One Stitch At A Time was an 'anything goes' challenge using the gorgeous dancing queen, Nataliya. This is such a fabulous image. I love fairies/angels and basically anything with wings and I utterly adore butterflies. And this image was all of the above rolled in to one.

Here is my creation for this weeks challenge.

I decided to try something different this week - I wanted to get back to my 'grungy' crafty style. Be a bit more natural to myself rather than trying to force something which basically - I'm just not!! 

I have come to the conclusion that any image can be used by any crafter regarding their personal style. Over the past few months I've felt like I had to craft a certain way because of the image I was using. Soooooo, I have decided not to think about it like that in the future. Be me. Craft MY way. 

So, that is what I did with this image.
I hid my ProMarkers and got out my scrummy coloured pencils. And not just any coloured pencils.... my fabulous metallic coloured pencils.... and got to work.


I wanted to give the image a 'Degas' feel to it. I love Degas' dancers. They are some of my favourite works of art. I wanted to create a dreamy feel, a splash, line, area of colour rather than a concentrated, focused, 'stick to in between the lines' colouring. And I thought the best medium for that was pencils.

I coloured in the image using greens, blues and purples. Then I tore around the image to 'cut' it out. 

I didn't want to just 'plonk' the image on to a standard size card. I chose a piece of mount board to work with.

I painted it with a olive coloured emulsion paint. I randomly stamped the background with a honeycomb stamp from Indigoblu then heat embossed it with white sparkle embossing powder. 

I collected bits of ribbons and lace and stuck them along the bottom and up the side of the mount board. 

I die cut some flowers from different fabrics, inked them and made a rosette by layering them together.

Then I inked around the edges of the torn image and stuck it in down. I took some blue satin ribbon and made a criss-cross pattern in the top corner to mimic the ballet shoes. I then painted it with distress inks.

I took a piece of muslin cloth and cut it in to small squares and frayed the edges.

To finish, I made two holes in the top of the board and tied some more ribbon to make a handle. 


Ingredients:
* Distress Inks, Peeled Paint, Chipped Sapphire, Broken China.
* White sparkle embossing powder.
* Blue satin ribbon.
* Muslin cloth.
* Different fabrics to create rosette.
* Spellbinders flower die.
* Honeycomb background stamp from Indigoblu.
