Mixed Media Ring Binder

Hello lovely crafters. I'm here with my creation for Itsy Bitsy.

For this creation I decided to decorate a Tando Creative greyboard folder. 

Greyboard is a fantastic base to work on as it strong enough to take numerous layers of different mediums. The size of the folder is just a bit bigger than A4 with a front overflap which wraps around the front of the folder.

So, here is my finished creation...

And this is how I did it....

First I painted the folder, both front and back with Itsy Bitsy white 2 in 1 Gesso Mixed Media Paste. 

I worked on small areas at a time as the overall size of the folder was so big.  I painted a section of the folder with a light wash of Itsy Bitsy Misty Fog Chalk Paint and then added torn pieces of the Touch Of Nature Decoupage Paper with Craft Glue.

I continued to add the Misty Fog paint and brought in another colour which was the Sailing Sky Chalk Paint.  Then added some Texture Sand.

And Mixed Media Art Stones.

I added some more texture using the Floral and Net stencils and Mixed Media Paste.

I wanted to create a matt background with a mix of colours so continued to add and blend the chalk paints.  But I also wanted to add some shine, so chose the Tinted Metallic Paints. I applied a small amount of the Caribbean Teal Tinted Metallic paint over the top of the stencilled Mixed Media Paste with my finger using it more like a wax than a paint.

Using the Primed Chipboard 'Making Memories Everyday' piece. I painted it with  Caribbean Teal and Silver Charm Tinted Metallic Paints and attached it to the front of the folder.

I then painted the rest of the folder, both the back and inside with the chalk paints.

Thin Cut Dies and Irregular Dots

Hello lovelies!! I'm here with my latest creation for the Itsy Bitsy Design Team. 

And all I can say is WOW!! Itsy Bitsy have done it again! They have released 15 new designs of Little Birdie Thin Cut Dies and I have been playing with the Embellished Boot set. In this set, along with the gorgeous embellished boot, comes a lovely selection of leaves and flowers.

And here is what I did...

So, first of all I added a thick layer of 2 in 1 Mixed Media paste through the Irregular Dots stencil.

When the Mixed Media Paste had dried I painted it with Sand Stone Chalk Paint. (I love watching the Little Birdie Chalk Paint change colour as it dries, which is why I prefer to let it air dry.)

When the Mixed Media Paste had dried, I sprayed Mocha Colour Spray over the top, adding the majority of the colour on the bottom left corner. And then adding a light spritz of Gold Nugget Alcohol Splash over the top.

While the Alcohol Splash was drying, I painted a separate piece of card with Wasabi Chalk Paint and gave it a light spray of the Mocha Colour Splash.

I used this piece of card to cut the leaves using the thin cut dies.

I also added some colour to a piece of crochet lace.

I added some stamping over the background using a distressed checkered stamp and brown ink.

I added the lace to the background, some lengths of burlap ribbon and some of the Little Birdie brown assorted flowers. Then added the green die cut leaves to add some colour.

Caged Heart

Hello lovelies, and welcome to my post for Itsy Bitsy. I have been playing with the gorgeous Little Birdie Chalk Paints again for this project. 

The chalk paints are stunning to work with, so smooth and a really nice thickness for good coverage. I decided to try something new and design a sculpture piece. So, I started with a glass coaster, polystyrene ball and a 3D cardboard heart. I glued them together then wrapped them in masking tape.

(The masking tape is better to work on than the polystyrene and glass. Some mediums don't particularly like manmade materials so if they are wrapped in masking tape, which is made of paper, mediums work much better on the surface.) 

I wanted to add some texture using Cheese Cloth, but with added structure. So I used PowerTex.

PowerTex requires you to put the fabric directly in to the stiffener covering the entire piece of the fabric, squeeze out the excess then wrap the wet fabric around the substrate.  I poured some of the stiffener on to a plastic plate, cut squares of cheese cloth, dipped them in to the stiffening liquid, squeezed out the excess and wrapped it around the heart, draping the fabric over the ball.

I did this numerous times with the cheese cloth until the substrate was covered. The stiffener dries pretty quickly so the fabric can be shaped and moved in to the correct position until you are happy with it.  When the fabric stiffener had dried completely, I painted the heart shaped with Faded Denim Chalk Paint and the bottom with Rainy Day Chalk Paint.

I then sprayed the heart shape with Wild Rose Alcohol Splash and let the ink run down and drip to the base of the substrate. When the Wild Rose had dried, I sprayed over the top with Golden Soot Alcohol Splash and again, let it run down the sides.

I wanted to make the shape of the heart more prominent. Using rusty wire, I created a 3D wire heart to fit around the heart shape on top of the substrate.

I then added some Symphony Flowers underneath the wire heart to soften the base of the substrate and keep the heart 'caged'.
