Digitally Sweet challenge #73

Another week at Digitally Sweet and its challenge #73, sponsored by DigiDarla Designs.

This week I chose 'Boy with Flowers' as I thought this image was very sweet and wanted to keep within the Valentines theme.


Here's what I came up with...

I coloured the image in using Spectrum Noirs, choosing a denim theme for the boys outfit with a bright t-shirt and colourful features. 
the image was then mounted on a printed blue textured paper.

For the background, I embossed a piece of white card using a bee embossing folder. I then inked it using pinks and yellow ink. 
I offset the embossed layer with blue checked paper and layered it on to a scalloped edge card blank.

I used blue bakers twine, wrapped around the card and added flowers, which I inked with pink ink and some leaves. I wanted to create a feminine feel with the flowers but a masculine fell by using the twine instead of ribbon.

"Hoppity Hop" - Digitally Sweet Challenge #72

Hello all, for this weeks challenge at Digitally Sweet, I used papers from Template Dreams. Template Dreams is a fantastic company who provide a whole range of digital amazingness. 




As we know, I'm not a 100% digital fan (it scares the hell out of me!!). So I suggested I print some papers off and use them as backgrounds. So that's what I did.

And here is what I came up with...

I took three different background papers and inked them around the edges with Distress Ink.
I cut out the bunny and the jar of jelly beans.

I mounted the bunny on to some foam to raise him off the page and added some curled wire.

I curled some more wire and added it springing from the jar. 

I stamped on the notelets " Have a Hoppy Day" and arranged them down the side of the page and added some yellow ribbon to finish.

.... I have no idea why but I'm still not 100% happy with this. You know that niggling feeling when something is..... but...

Forever Friends - OSAAT challenge #196

Hello all and a Happy New Year since this is the 1st post of 2014 for me over One Stitch At A Time. 

This weeks images is 'Forever Friends' from Delicious Doodles and can be found in the Stitchy Store here.
The challenge is sponsored by StitchyBear Digi Outlet and the winner will receive all the images the design team used in challenge #194.

Here is my creation...

I coloured the image in using my Spectrum Noir pens which I got for Christmas. I'm still figuring them out yet but I'm enjoying playing about with them. 

I found some textured card the same colour tones as I had used to colour the image and ran them through an embossing folder to create some texture. 

I took a couple of pieces of blue card and stamped and embossed them using clear embossing powder and a plaid background stamp to create a textured watermark effect.

I mounted the image on to a plaid paper to match the blue stamped corners and to make the image stand out.

I arranged the different papers on the background and added the image on top.

To finish I added a rosette, which I added blue ribbons to. 

Then stamped, using blue ink, then black, the word 'Friendship' on to white card and inked around the edges.

I chose the soooo cute Willow to play with as she's is such a cutie. 

And here is what I came up with...

I coloured her using my Spectrum Noir pens and chose a lovely blue/purple combo.

After colouring her in, I chose different background papers and mounted them on to white card, then layered them at different angles.

I added some teal ribbon and thread and a glittered butterfly and sentiment.

Love is in the air - Digitally Sweet challenge #70

This week challenge at Digitally Sweet I had the opportunity to use another gorgeous image from Lunagirl.

I got the inspiration for this creation when I was hunting for something in my craft room and I came across an old envelope. (I didn't find the thing I was originally searching for but...) Inside the envelope was a stack of old photograph negatives.... remember those? And I thought they might be nice to use with this image.

Here is my creation...

I started by making a background using some purple and black ink. I randomly rubbed the ink over smooth card to create a patchy textured background. 

I printed the image off several times at 13cm x 15cm and mounted one on to black card. 

I took two strips of the photograph negatives and sanded them heavily to create a old, scratchy effect. I took a length of grey thin ribbon and randomly weaved it through the holes in one of the negative borders.

I used my Visible Image 'ripped fishnet' stamp to stamp down one edge of the page and embossed it with silver embossing powder.

I added some white lace between the stamped and inked edge.

To put the card together, I arranged the images on top of each other and placed the one with the border on top. Then placed the negatives next to the image.

I stamped the 'love' stamp in a frame on to white card using silver ink and mounted it on to black card. 

To finish I added some cream padded fabric love hearts.

My 1st GDT challenge for 'THAT CRAFT PLACE' - Use A Charm.....

Well folks, the day I've been waiting for.... my 1st challenge as a Guest Designer for THAT CRAFT PLACE. 

As it's now 2014, I want to try some new crafty things for the new year, and I want to play around with creating 3D pieces. And my 1st port of call in my crafty stash of recyclables was the mountain of glass jars I have stashed away... (I have a 1 year old and therefore have stored away an enormous mound of baby food jars! Which every time I put them in the wash - hubby used to say, "do I really have to peel the labels off these jars?" Mmmmm, yey you do!!)

Anyway, I decided to bring some of these jars out of hiding for my 1st challenge at THAT CRAFT PLACE which was 'Use A Charm'.

Here is what I did...

A couple of weeks ago, I got a bag of happy post and couldn't wait to open it. Inside, amongst some other gorg bits was the most gorgeous bits of fabricy, woven ribbon and natural products. Just beautiful.

I wanted to make some glass candle lights with the jars and my happy post goodies. 
But to start with I wanted to add something to the plain jars themselves. 

I wanted to add some embossing round the jar as a pattern... and oh my god was this a challenge... stamping on to glass is one thing, stamping on to glass that is also a curved surface.... 

But...here is a 360 view.

Inside my happy post bag was a gorgeous Ditzie Design stamp which I wanted to use on the large jar. 
After a lot of practice, I found it was easier to stamp if the stamp was laid flat and the jar carefully rolled over it.
I inked the stamp, rolled over the jar and poured black sparkle embossing powder over the top. Then heated it with the heat gun. 
I also wanted to add some colour. I poured pebble coloured paint in to the bottom and swirled it around up the sides of the jar. I then dried the paint with a blast of the heat gun as I wanted to create a cracked effect, which wouldn't of worked if left to air dry. 

I left a part of the jar blank so I could add the fabric and ribbon and also the charm.

I created a fabric patchwork and stuck it to the side of the jar (again difficult... glue on to glass....) 

I wanted to add the charm around the neck of the jar and initially used some chain but then thought it looked odd with the natural fibres of the fabric. So I decided to use some jute string to match the textures and look of the patchwork. 
I attached the charm to the string and wrapped it twice around the jar neck and tied it in a triple knot. I also added some around the center of the jar. 


After playing around with the 1st jar, I got a bit addicted... so started on a second...

Here's my second jar...

Again I inked up a stamp using Indigoblu Crackle stamp and heat embossed it using black sparkle embossing powder.

This time, I used teal coloured paint and created another patchwork to cover the blank side of the jar. 

With this jar, as it was smaller, I added the charm to the center of the jar rather than around the neck. 

As these were initially to be used as candle lights, I put some tea lights in the bottom. And I think they look as gorgeous in the dark as they do in the light.

This is very addictive, and as I have a mountain of jars I'm sure I will be making more of these in the future!!!
