Winter Holidays @ Tando

Holidays are comin', holidays are comin'.... erhum, erhummm... anyway... Let's get back to the crafting...

Hi folks, and welcome to this weeks Tando creation. Our theme this week is Winter Holidays.

As you may know, I am a self diagnosed MDF horder! My MDF storage area in my craft room is overflowing, so I decided to have a rummage through to see what I could play with.
I chose a plain (and lets face it, pretty boring)box to alter.

Here is my creation...

I started with covering the box with a light teal blue DecoArt paint which I watered down a lot to create a washy feel. Once dry, I gave the lid of the box and the four sides a good coat with DecoArt Weathered Wood. When the coat was dry, I applied a coat of DecoArt Crackle Paint. By using both DecoArt products produces mega cracks, huge, HUGE cracks!!!

I then made a muddy browny grey colour wash and painted layers of the wash until I was happy with the colour tone. I then went over it with Stazon Ganache to create more tones. I finished the box off by swiping over white Gesso with a dry tissue.

On to the decoration...

To decorate the box I used lots of Tando goodies. Reindeer, snowflakes, wonky trees and robins is what I used.
I added DecoArt Sand Texture Paste to the snowflakes, wonky trees and on the wing and breast of the robins.

I then painted all the pieces and rubbed some metallic gold to the texture paste pieces. To finish, I went over all the bits with the Stazon Ganache ink.

I also painted inside the box to match.

I hope you like my Winter Holidays Box and would love to hear your thoughts so leave me a comment if you can.

Christmas Stocking with Tando

Hello folks and welcome to another post. Today I am sharing my colour theme creation for the Tando Creative Team. This months colour theme is very Christmassy.

I must admit, I'm not a very red person, even at Christmas. My Christmas cards are usually blue, green, blue, purple, gold, silver, blue, purple... you get the idea....

For this challenge I wanted to do something related to Christmas, as it is the season, but also do something a bit unusual. I decided on a plaque or what could be turned in to a wall hanging.

This is what I created...

I started with a piece of MDF board to work on. I added some linen fabric, some ripped cardboard, some tape and ribbon to add some texture to the MDF.

I used the Tando Christmas Stocking as the centre piece and I used a palette knife to add DecoArt sand texture paste to give it more texture.

I added some Tando Christmas Stocking mini's to repeat the christmas theme down the right side.

And added some different sized metal rings down the left side, again to create texture and introduce different shapes.

I gave the whole thing a good coat of gesso then painted with DecoArt paints.

I freehand cut the numbers 2 and 5 a couple of times and stuck them together. Then raided my huge box of embossing powders and chose a selection of colours - racing green, copper, red, gold and a white holographic.

I first heat embossed the numbers using a mixture of the colours. I wanted the background to blend as one and the numbers to stand out so I made the '25' bright and shiny.

I then added some colours from the DecoArt Media Line

To finish, I added sprinkles of the different colours of embossing powder quite randomly then heated slowly.

Here are all the items I used and are all available on the Tando Website

Winter Blues with IndigoBlu

Welcome to this months IndigoBlu challenge. The theme this month is Winter Blues.

Here is what I have created for the challenge.

I stamped the Twinkle Star on to white card and heat embossed with seafoam white embossing powder.

Then comes the fun bit.... Spraying with IndigoBlu Acrylic Paints. Mix the paint with water in a spray bottle in a ratio of 1/4, give it a good shake and get spraying!!! I love this technique as it is completely random and even if the same colours are used together, the final design will never be the same.

The colours I used were Park Lane, Sleeping Beauty and Townhouse Teal (My favourite colour combination). I sprayed the paint until the whole card was covered. I then wiped over the embossed stars with a wet wipe to bring back the whiteness of the embossing powder.

I then cut a smaller piece of card and sprayed it with Park Lane then stamped the 'Twinkle Twinkle' words randomly with 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation stamping with VersaFine ink. I then stamped and heat embossed the words three times with white embossing powder, sprayed with Townhouse Teal, cut and arranged them over the bigger piece of card.

To finish, I took a piece of phat foam with FlitterGlu on and ran it around the edge of the background card and the Twinkle Twinkle card. Then gilded it with Sheffield Steel Megaflakes.

All the products I have used for today's blog post are available on the website. Hope to see you over at the challenge.

Thanks for popping by,

Altered Eclectics - December Challenge......

Hi folks and welcome to the last challenge of 2015 at Altered Eclectics.

I have loved this year being on this team. The girls are great and the Boss is just amazing. It's such a lovely team to be part of.

For the last challenge of the year, I decided to just have a play and see what came of it.

Here is what I created...

I found an old wooden mini frame in my stash that I had painted but never got round to doing anything else with. Then I spent the next hour sieving through my jars of bits and bobs. We all have them - those jars full to the top of metal embellishments, charms, buttons, old jewellery, beads, and anything else we find along the way. I tend to shove them all in overly organised jars.
I found a few interesting pieces and started to build them in to the frame.

After arranging and rearranging I decided to adhere them using a gel medium and painted the whole thing with white gesso.

I mixed up some DecoArt paint with DecoArt Tinting Base and gave everything a good coat.

I then used the 'ink in a bottle' sprays from Oak House Studio over the top to create different tints of colour and the super shimmer.

As this is the last Altered Eclectics challenge of the year, it is open for two whole months so you have plenty of time to get crafty.

I hope all our lovely Altered Eclectics challengers have a lovely Christmas and I wish you all the best for 2016.

Merry Christmas

Toodles for now, Lisa xxx
