Hey folks! For this months Altered Eclectics post I have decided to share with you a piece I did recently for the Tando Creative show on Hochanda.
The circle shadow frame is one of a 5-part set of different shaped frames that can be altered and decorated.
There are 3 layers to each frame - a 3mm MDF base layer then 2 upper layers (a wider layer and a thin layer) cut from 2250 micron greyboard. The thin layer can be placed underneath to create the shadow effect or on top of the wider layer for a different effect. All the frames come with the inner pieces and just pop out the frames.
In the set is a heart, circle, square, diamond and an arched window.
For this project I used the circle frame.
Here is what I did...
First I gave the three layers of the circle frame a coat of white gesso.
On the MDF layer (which is the back layer of the frame) I painted a good thick layer of DecoArt white Crackle Paint and left it to dry.
I then mixed DecoArt Media Colbalt Teal Hue Acrylic paint with some clean water and then painted it at the top and bottom of the background frame, tilting the frame to make the paint run.
When all the layer were fully dry, I applied clear embossing ink all over the frame background. Then applied a layer of ultra thick embossing enamel and heated it.
On the wider of the two greyboard frames I first applied DecoArt white Modelling Paste through the Tando criss cross grid mask over the gesso layer. When dry I then applied DecoArt Texture Sand paste to random areas of the frame.
I used DecoArt Media Acrylics in Burnt Umber, Paynes Grey, Quinacridone Gold and Colbalt Teal Blue to colour the frame.
I glued all the layers together and added some bronze chain to hang the frame.
Thanks for popping by,
see you again soon
